Tom Lewis is a lifelong advocate for Crystal Beach, Ridgeway, and Greater Fort Erie. First elected to Fort Erie Council in 2003 and re-elected in 2022, Tom has spent decades working to protect and strengthen Ward 5/Fort Erie while helping shape the future of the community he proudly calls home.

Tom Lewis’ commitment to local advocacy began early. At just 18 years old, Tom successfully lobbied the Ontario Minister of Tourism to add Ridgeway and Crystal Beach to QEW exit signage, an early example of the determination and leadership that continue to define his public service today.

As a Councillor, Tom has been a strong advocate for responsible growth, infrastructure investment, and protecting public access to Bay Beach. During his first term, he helped lay the foundation for the revitalization of Crystal Beach through the completion of award-winning Neighbourhood Plan #1 and served on numerous municipal committees, including Public Works.

Tom built extensive experience across the public, private, and non-profit sectors. He contributed to major infrastructure and renewable energy projects, including the development of Niagara’s first commercial wind farms, helping establish the region’s reputation as Canada’s Green Energy Capital. He also served at Queen’s Park as Executive Assistant to the Chief Government Whip and held senior policy and issues-management roles within the Ontario Public Service.

In 2019, Tom and his husband, Alex, returned to their property in Crystal Beach full-time, reaffirming their commitment to the community they love.

In 2022, residents once again placed their trust in Tom’s experienced leadership, electing him back to Council nearly two decades after his first term. Since returning to office, he has focused on delivering practical results for Ward 5 and Greater Fort Erie.

His work has included advocating for the preservation of local urgent care services, investing in Bay Beach and waterfront assets, implementing short-term rental regulations, modernizing noise and nuisance bylaws, supporting organizational improvements at Town Hall, and advancing significant investments in roads, sidewalks, water, and sewer infrastructure. Tom has also stood up for Fort Erie throughout ongoing regional governance and amalgamation discussions, ensuring the community’s voice is heard and respected.

Tom has championed economic development by supporting the creation of a Community Improvement Program for the Crystal Beach BIA, helping secure more than $214,000 for revitalization projects while encouraging investment and supporting local businesses. He has remained a strong advocate for protecting agricultural lands, maintaining urban boundaries, and ensuring growth is managed responsibly and sustainably.

Today, Tom serves as both Fort Erie Ward 5 Councillor and Executive Director of the Poultry Industry Council, where he leads one of Ontario’s respected agricultural organizations supporting education, innovation, and growth across the poultry sector.

Tom believes there is still important work ahead. While much progress has been made, the challenges facing our community are far from over. We need experience now more than ever! Healthcare services remain under pressure, infrastructure needs continue to grow, and important decisions about Fort Erie’s future will require strong local representation and experienced leadership.
